NORTH EAST TOWNSHIP — A crash involving a Greyhound bus and a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning resulted in numerous injuries and closed both westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in North East Township.
Pennsylvania State Police said the crash occurred around 12:21 a.m. Sept. 17 near mile marker 45.6 in the westbound lanes.
The Greyhound bus was carrying 36 passengers when it was involved in the collision with a tractor-trailer hauling numerous pallets of “Factor” premade meals. Nine of the bus passengers were transported to local hospitals, including UPMC Hamot and St. Vincent.
The collision caused thousands of packaged meals to spill onto the interstate. The Greyhound bus, tractor-trailer and spilled meals blocked both westbound lanes, resulting in the closure of that section of I-90 for several hours.
Pennsylvania State Police were assisted at the scene by PennDOT, Fuller Hose Company, Crescent Hose Company, Kuhl Hose Company, Greenfield Fire Department, Brookside Fire Department, Ripley Fire Department in New York, East County EMS and EmergyCare paramedics.
The crash remains under investigation.
