UNION CITY — Union City Borough and Union Township are beginning the process of updating their joint comprehensive plan and are asking residents and others connected to the community to help identify priorities for the project.
The municipalities are working with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development through its Community Technical Assistance Program. The program will provide up to 400 hours of planning assistance at no cost to the borough and township.
The initial phase will focus on identifying three to five key priorities for the comprehensive plan update and developing a request for proposals for professional consulting services.
A public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at First Global Methodist Church, 42 E. High St. The meeting will provide an overview of the project and give members of the public an opportunity to offer ideas and identify issues they believe should be addressed.
A Project Advisory Committee has also been established to assist with the planning process.
Residents, people who work in the area and those who visit Union City are encouraged to complete a public survey. The survey is intended to gather opinions that will help establish the priorities for the plan.
Paper copies are available at several locations, including the LECOM Union City Rural Health Clinic, Saint Vincent Outpatient Center, Main Street Art Center, NAPA Auto Parts, Union City Public Library, Union City Pizzeria, Union City Senior Center, Ace Hardware, the Union City Borough Office and the Union Township Office.
Only one response per person is requested. Survey responses are requested by Friday, Sept. 25.
The survey can also be completed online through the Union City Borough website or Union Township website.
