ROCKDALE TOWNSHIP — A nearly $1 million project to replace the bridge carrying Route 408 over Mohawk Run in Rockdale Township began today.
The existing 36-foot bridge, built in 1930 and rated in poor condition, will be replaced with a box culvert. The project also includes paving on both sides of the crossing, new guide rail and line painting.
A detour will be in place throughout construction using Route 86, Route 198 and Route 77. Work is expected to be completed by October 2026, weather permitting.
The bridge is located approximately 750 feet east of the intersection of Route 408 and Greytown Hills Road. About 1,100 vehicles use the bridge each day.
C.H. & D. Enterprises of New Stanton is the contractor. The $990,974.67 project is being funded entirely with federal funds.
