In the Union City Area School District, students return Tuesday, Aug. 25, following a teacher in-service day on Monday.

Corry Area School District students begin classes Wednesday, Aug. 26. Teachers and staff have in-service days Monday and Tuesday.

Students in the Wattsburg Area and Fort LeBoeuf school districts also return Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Maplewood students will have a slightly later start. As part of the PENNCREST School District, teachers have a work day Thursday, Aug. 27, followed by in-service days Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1. Students will begin the school year Wednesday, Sept. 2.

As students head back to school, PennDOT is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert, particularly in school zones and around buses. Pennsylvania law requires drivers to obey the 15-mile-per-hour speed limit in school zones and stop at least 10 feet away from a school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop arm is activated.

Drivers traveling on the opposite side of a divided roadway with a physical barrier are not required to stop for the bus.

PennDOT is also urging motorists to avoid distractions and watch for students walking, biking and getting on and off school buses as the new school year begins.
