HARRISBURG — A new Pennsylvania law will prohibit telemarketers from disguising their identity and place new limits on when solicitation calls can be made.
Act 47 of 2026 bans telemarketing companies from “spoofing” caller ID information, including displaying false business names or local telephone numbers in an effort to persuade consumers to answer their phones.
The law also shortens the hours during which telemarketing calls may be placed. Beginning 90 days after the law’s enactment, calls will only be permitted between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Telemarketing calls will be prohibited on Sundays and legal holidays.
In addition, telemarketers will be required to clearly identify themselves, explain the purpose of the call and disclose what product or service is being offered at the beginning of the conversation.
The law also requires telemarketers to immediately end a solicitation if the recipient requests it and expands Pennsylvania’s prohibitions against deceptive and abusive telemarketing practices.
Act 47 is scheduled to take effect in 90 days.
