Christopher Lyon Named Corry Fire Chief in Department Restructuring

CORRY — Christopher Lyon will become Corry’s new fire chief after City Council approved a restructuring of the Fire Department’s leadership during a special meeting Friday.

Council unanimously approved hiring Lyon as fire chief and code enforcement officer, effective July 29, 2026, at an annual salary of $75,000. He was sworn into office immediately following the vote.

The restructuring also included the reassignment of current Fire Chief Ryan Card to deputy fire chief/deputy code enforcement officer, effective July 29, at an annual salary of $67,325. In addition, Christopher Young was reassigned from deputy fire chief to captain, effective July 22.

Both Lyon and Card were authorized to use city-owned vehicles for travel to and from work, emergency callouts and other official city business. Personal use of the vehicles is prohibited.

During discussion, Parks and Public Property Director William Hammond III asked about the assignment of department vehicles. City Administrator Joanne Smith said the department has three vehicles available and that the new fire chief will determine which vehicles are assigned based on operational needs.

Mayor Jeffrey Fike said the personnel actions were the culmination of extensive discussions about the department’s future.

“Just to make everything completely clear, all of these actions are being taken by the consensus of a lot of discussions that we need to do some restructuring and bring our department forward,” Fike said.

Following the council’s unanimous approval, Lyon took the oath of office as Corry’s new fire chief.
