Pennsylvania State Police are investigating three recent crashes in Erie County, including a rollover crash in Greene Township that sent an Erie man to the hospital and two separate hit-and-run incidents in Waterford Borough and North East Township.
The most serious crash occurred at approximately 10:18 a.m. on July 1 in the 8600 block of Lake Pleasant Road in Greene Township.
According to state police, 92-year-old Louis L. Stiles of Erie was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue southbound when he struck the rear of a U.S. Postal Service mail truck that was stopped while delivering mail. The impact caused the SUV to overturn onto its roof before coming to rest in a ditch along the roadway.
Stiles was transported to UPMC Hamot with injuries of unknown severity. The driver of the mail truck, 38-year-old Wendy K. Rodgers of Fairview, was not injured. Police cited Stiles for careless driving. Kuhl Hose Company, Waterford EMS, EmergyCare and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
State police are also investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. on June 20 in the parking lot of the Waterford Hotel on South Park Row.
Troopers said an unidentified driver backed a Chevrolet Silverado out of a parking space and struck the rear passenger side of a parked 2008 GMC Yukon before leaving the scene. No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.
A second hit-and-run occurred at approximately 9:28 p.m. on June 26 on East Main Road in North East Township.
According to police, a 2012 Toyota Prius driven by 41-year-old Erin E. Holt of Westfield, New York, traveled off the south side of the roadway and struck a mailbox before leaving the scene. Troopers later identified Holt, who was not injured. She was cited for accidents involving damage to unattended property.
