A 21-year-old Erie woman was injured Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Amity Township, according to the Pennsylvania State Police – Corry.
Troopers identified the driver as Bailey E. Lowery, 21, of Erie.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:04 p.m. Feb. 17 on Beaver Dam Road, about 1,478 feet north of Hayes Road. Police said Lowery was traveling south on Route 89 when she lost control of her vehicle while texting.
According to investigators, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch, continuing approximately 180 feet before striking a tree with the right front of the vehicle. After the initial impact, the vehicle rolled onto its roof and slid about 50 feet before coming to rest in the southbound lane.
Lowery was wearing a lap and shoulder belt at the time of the crash. She was transported by Wattsburg Hose Company to Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie with injuries of unknown severity.
Police said Lowery was charged with prohibiting text-based communication.
