High School Swim Team Results

The Union City swim teams delivered a commanding performance Thursday night, sweeping Girard at home. The Bears won the boys meet 118–28, while the girls competition was tightly contested, with Girard edging Union City 84–81.

Boys Highlights

Union City’s depth powered the victory.

Carter DeSimone (12) won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:22.57 and the 50 freestyle in 26.95, and helped anchor the winning 400 free relay (4:52.66).

Luke Byerley (10) captured the 200 IM in 3:04.26 and swam on the winning 200 free relay (2:05.64).

Logan Ahl (12) placed first in the 100 backstroke in 1:33.82.

The Bears also won the 200 free relay (2:05.64) and 400 free relay (4:52.66).

Girard’s top boys performance came from Gavin Miller (FR), runner-up in the 500 free (6:49.83), and Andrew Oas (FR), who won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.93).

Girls Highlights

The girls meet came down to the final events, with Girard narrowly claiming the team title.

For Union City:

Brasleigh Donahue (10) won the 500 free in 7:12.86.

Alena Urbanowicz (12) took first in the 100 free (1:06.87) and finished second in the 50 free (28.49).

Union City won the 400 free relay in 4:49.55 behind Madison Link, Mara Webster, Donahue, and Urbanowicz.

Girard was led by Mia Johnson (FR), winner of the 100 butterfly (1:18.69) and 100 backstroke (1:09.64); Jemma Culver (JR), who captured the 50 free (28.28); and Addison Fitzpatrick (SR), who won the 200 IM (2:12.01) and 100 breaststroke (1:24.86).

Union City’s boys controlled the meet from start to finish, while the girls battled to the final relay in one of the closest meets of the season.
