The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Union City Borough are teaming up to host a hands-on community workshop on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Legion Ball Fields Park on First Avenue.
Local residents are invited to come out and learn practical strategies for identifying and controlling invasive weeds like Japanese knotweed, which has overtaken many of the area’s parks, trails, and backyards.
Participants will receive tools, instruction, and refreshments as they help prepare the park for future improvement projects, including:
- Enhancing fishing and boating access along South Branch French Creek with stream-bank stabilization
- Planting native wildflowers to support pollinators
- Preparing for tree plantings scheduled for next year
The event is an opportunity to take part in improving a local green space while gaining valuable tips for managing invasive species at home.
