The Union City Lady Bears hosted the region leading Maplewood Tigers on Thursday night in the Bears Den, hoping to extend their three-game winning streak. The Tigers got off to a hot start in the game, going on a 12-0 run, before Lucy Higley would get the Bears on the board. It was all Maplewood from there, as the game would be in the mercy rule by halftime, and the Tigers would go on to defeat the Bears 49-19, ending the Lady Bears three game win streak, as the Lady Bears fall to 9-9 (4-4) on the season. The girls next game will be Monday night, as they hit the road to take on the Saegertown Panthers. “We came out flat tonight. It was a really tough night shooting for us and all the credit to Maplewood.” Coach Matt Moon stated after the game. “They’re a quality team that plays great defense and are very efficient on offense. We rushed everything and never could calm ourselves down. The two games we played against them won’t define our season though, and we still have a good shot at getting a playoff spot. We’ll make the adjustments we need to and will be ready for another big region game Monday as we travel to Saegertown.”
The Lady Bears defeated the Tigers in the JV game 41-25.
