The Union City Bears baseball team was finally on the diamond for their season opener on Tuesday afternoon as they took on the Cranberry Berries in a non-region game.
After the Bears put the Berries down in order to start the game, the Bears would strike first to score three runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 3-0 lead after one inning.
The Berries would have a strong third inning to even the score up at three but the Bears would regain the lead after scoring a run in the fourth to make the score 4-3.
The Berries would take the lead in the seventh after scoring two runs and would never look back as they would take down the Bears 5-4.
The Bears will be back in action on Thursday afternoon as they host Cambridge Springs in a non-region game.
