Union City Borough Council approved the agreement during its March 10 meeting, establishing a two-year lease that allows the Little League to manage rentals of the facility.

According to Borough Manager Cindy Wells, the arrangement is designed to streamline use of the building while keeping it active for both community events and Little League activities.

“The Little League will be handling rentals for the social hall and will receive the income from those rentals,” Wells said. “This also allows them to keep the building for their own use during tournaments.”

Under the agreement, the Little League will pay the borough $3,000 per year and cover utility costs, including water and electric. Wells said the utilities totaled about $700 over the past year. The borough will continue to carry insurance on the building.

Wells outlined the financial considerations discussed by council, noting the social hall generated about $3,150 in rental income last year, with approximately $2,500 in rentals already scheduled for this year. Borough expenses for the building included about $3,500 for insurance over the past 12 months.

The new lease is separate from a broader 10-year agreement between the borough and the Little League that covers other portions of the ballfield complex.

The borough became a major stakeholder in the complex in 2025 with the purchase of the former American Legion ballfields. The $250,000 acquisition was funded through a partnership that included Erie County, the Union City Community Foundation and a private donation, ensuring the fields remain available for youth sports and community use.

Wells said the borough owns the three fields on the east side of the complex, while the Little League retains ownership of two fields on the west side.

Those interested in renting the social hall can contact Little League representative Chris Zielinski at 814-873-1362 to schedule use of the facility.
