A 78-year-old Saegertown woman reported losing $15,000 in a Bitcoin scam, according to the Pennsylvania State Police. Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Meadville Patrol Unit said the incident occurred February 19 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Woodcock Township. The victim, identified as Marilyn Jones of Saegertown, told police she was contacted by an unknown male who claimed her computer had been compromised by a virus. She was instructed to send $15,000 via Bitcoin, which she later reported as fraudulent. The investigation remains ongoing.
In a separate case, state police arrested a Meadville woman in connection with a theft in Union Township, Crawford County. According to troopers, Laura Yount, 26, is accused of unlawfully taking an iPad Mini 6th Generation valued at $199 from Telisha Yount, 42, of Meadville. Police allege the device was sold through Facebook Marketplace. The alleged theft occurred between December 1, 2025, and February 26, 2026, at a residence on Kennedy Hill Road. Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody without incident, and charges have been filed through the local issuing authority.
