According to the City of Warren Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:25 p.m. on January 19 to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Witnesses told police that a black pickup truck struck a known 57-year-old man who was operating an electric mobility scooter and then fled the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner.

Following an investigation, police identified and located the driver, Cyrus L. Sears, 22, at his residence. Investigators determined that Sears allegedly removed the damaged mobility scooter from beneath his pickup truck and attempted to conceal it in the truck bed under a closed tonneau cover.

Sears was taken into custody and charged with accidents involving death, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property, and several summary offenses. He is currently being held at the Warren County Jail on $150,000 bail. Police say additional charges may be filed pending further analysis and investigation.

The Warren Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the City of Warren Fire Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Conewango Township Police, and the Warren County Coroner’s Office.
