According to the police report, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:08 a.m. to the 900 block of East South Street after receiving a complaint of several gunshots fired near a neighboring residence. Police were granted permission by a co-resident to enter the home where the shots were believed to have originated.

Officers attempted to make contact with 40-year-old Thomas J. Lohse, who police say was noncompliant with repeated commands. While inside the residence, officers observed several firearms in plain view, along with spent shell casings from a shotgun and a .22-caliber rifle.

Police report that after Lohse continued to refuse commands, a Taser was deployed in an attempt to take him into custody. During the struggle, Lohse is accused of punching officers multiple times and attempting to disarm one officer of their firearm. He was eventually restrained, placed in handcuffs, and taken into custody without further incident.

Lohse was transported to Erie County Prison, where he remained incarcerated after being unable to post bail. Bail was set at $25,000 monetary.

Court records show that Lohse waived his preliminary hearing on January 12, 2026, before Magisterial District Judge Denise Marie Buell. Several charges, including resisting arrest, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault, were waived for court and will proceed to Erie County Court. Other charges, including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and possession of an instrument of crime, were withdrawn.
