National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation has filed its annual Purchased Gas Cost report with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, outlining projected natural gas supply costs for the period from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027.

According to the filing, the company projects an increase in overall gas supply charges of about $71.49 per year for a typical residential customer. If approved as filed, the average monthly bill for a residential customer using 98,400 cubic feet of natural gas annually would rise from $87.18 to $93.13, an increase of 6.83 percent, beginning August 1, 2026.

National Fuel attributes the projected increase primarily to higher expected costs for purchasing and transporting natural gas. Market forecasts from the New York Mercantile Exchange indicate natural gas prices next winter are expected to exceed the average prices seen over the 12 months ending November 30, 2025.

Under state law, National Fuel is required to purchase natural gas at the lowest reasonable cost while maintaining a reliable supply for more than 214,000 Pennsylvania customers. The company passes gas supply costs directly to customers without markup, with rates adjusted to reflect market conditions.

The proposed rates are subject to review and approval by the Public Utility Commission. If approved, supply charges will continue to be adjusted quarterly to account for changes in market prices and updated cost projections.

National Fuel also noted that the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is currently open. Eligibility is based on household size and income, with funds distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers experiencing difficulty paying their bills are encouraged to explore available assistance programs.
