In a statement released late Friday, the department acknowledged awareness of the incident and confirmed that an internal investigation is underway. Officials stated the investigation will include a review of body-worn camera footage, public video, witness statements, and all relevant facts.

The video, which drew swift reaction on social media, sparked concern among residents and civil rights advocates. In response, the department emphasized its commitment to public trust, transparency, and professional standards.

“The Meadville Police Department is committed to protecting and serving the people of the City of Meadville, and treating all people with dignity,” the statement read. “We are dedicated to ensuring that every interaction between our officers and the public is conducted with integrity, respect and fairness.”

Police urged the public to remain patient during the investigation and invited anyone with additional information or video footage of the incident to contact Chief of Police Mike Stefanucci at mstef@police.cityofmeadville.org.

City officials did not release the names of those involved in the incident and did not offer further details regarding the circumstances of the arrest.

The department acknowledged that allegations of this nature “can erode public trust” and pledged to conduct the investigation as swiftly and thoroughly as possible.

This is a developing story.
