The Union City Bears softball team was back on their home field on Tuesday afternoon, taking on the Fairview Tigers in a region game. It was all Fairview to start, as they would take a 9-1 lead in the fifth inning. The Lady Bears would battle back however, as Senior Lucy Higley would hit a home run to center field in the fifth, her third on the season, which would break the school record for most home runs in Union City softball history! Fast forward to the bottom of the seventh, down 13-6, the Lady Bears would rally again scoring six runs, bringing the Tigers lead down to one. The Lady Bears would have the tying run in scoring position at second base, and the winning run over at first base, when the Tigers recorded the final out of the game, holding off the Lady Bears late rally to win the game 13-12, as the Lady Bears fall to 7-8 (5-7) on the season. The softball team will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon, as they travel to Northwestern to take on the Wildcats in another region game.
