Lady Bears Fall Short in Hard Fought Game

Written By Cody Rose

The Lady Bears came into Cambridge Springs on Monday night hoping to continue their hot streak, where they have won five of their last six games, including two consecutive, taking on the second place Blue Devils. Entering the fourth quarter down by five, in a tightly contested game throughout, the Lady Bears were looking to pull off the upset over the Lady Devils and earn their third straight win. The Devils were able to outscore the Bears in the fourth quarter 15-6, winning the game 45-31, holding off the Lady Bears strong effort while improving to 16-5 (9-2) on the season, as the Lady Bears fall to 11-10 (6-5), but proved they can compete with the best. The Lady Bears will head to Rocky Grove for their regular season finale Thursday night, where a win will clinch the Bears third place in the region standings. “The girls’ effort tonight was outstanding. It’s hard to be satisfied with a loss but I couldn’t be prouder of the way we played.” Coach Matt Moon told us in a statement following the hard-fought game. “The girls saw tonight they can play with one of the best teams in our classification and that will build our confidence even though we didn’t pull it out. We had it within 5 after 3 quarters and 7 with two minutes to go but just missed some shots. We’re playing some of our best basketball right now and it couldn’t come at a better time. We’ll get back to work over the next two days and close out the regular season at Rocky Grove Thursday. Then we’ll wait until Sunday to see where the cards fall. I’m confident if we get a spot, we’ll be a tough out for anyone we go up against.”

The Lady Bears came back from behind double digits to win the JV game 45-37.
