Lady Bears Fall to Devils; Winter Sports King Crowned

Written by Cody Rose

The Union City Lady Bears hosted the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils Thursday night in a region game where Zach Beckwith was crowned this year’s Winter Sports King. The Lady Bears were able to keep the game close throughout the first half, in the second half the shots wouldn’t fall as the Lady Devils would pull away to a 52-27 win as the Lady Bears fall to 6-7 (2-3) on the season. The Bears will be back home again Friday night taking on the Fairview Tigers in a non-region game. The Lady Bears won the JV game. “We stuck to our game plan in the first half and were right in it at halftime.” Coach Matt Moon told us after the game. “Had a rough 3rd quarter and missed a lot of shots in the second half and the game got away from us but there is a lot of good to take away from tonight. We’ll build on that and learn from the mistakes we made and get better. Another tough game Friday night against a really good Fairview team and then a trip to Reynolds Saturday to finish out a packed week. We’re not out of anything with over half our region games to play yet and we’re getting better so I’m encouraged.”
