Council Hears Parking and Citations Reports

Union City Police Chief David Pernice updated Borough Council at a recent meeting on traffic citations.  The contract with the current provider of paper citations expires in 2023 and there will be a considerable price increase at that time.  Local departments are being encouraged by the state to adopt an electronic filing system for issuing citations and he is looking into those options.  The borough is also considering changes to an ordinance that would require outstanding parking tickets to be paid in full prior to impounded vehicles being released to the owner.  The current ordinance only allows for vehicles to be towed after receiving two violations within a 72 hour period and does not require payment of fines in order to get the car back.
