Union City Borough Council held a special meeting Monday night to consider two bids for Municipal Solid Waste and Recycling Services in the wake of the closing of Racoon Refuse. A bid from Rare Breed Refuse did not meet legal requirements so council voted to accept the bid from Tri-County Industries to provide trash and recycling services for the next 4 years, beginning November 4. Over the next several weeks residents will receive a 96-gallon container with a brown lid for garbage services and a 96-gallon container with a blue lid for recycling. Garbage will be picked up weekly and recyclables will be picked up every other week.
