Bears Take Down Braves

The Union City Bears Football team traveled to Iroquois High School on Saturday night to take on the Iroquois Braves looking for their second win of the season. It was a defensive battle throughout the first half as both teams would go scoreless in the first quarter. The first score of the game would come late in the second quarter as QB Clay Thomas would find the end zone for a six yard touchdown run with 1:43 remaining in the first half, Thomas would also get the two point conversion as the Bears took an 8-0 heading into the half. The Braves would receive the second half kickoff taking the ball all the way down to the Bears 5 yard line where Union City would force a turnover and the Bears offense would take over. A couple plays later Skyler Olmstead would run 91 yards for a touchdown and Owen Kerns would take it in for the two point conversion giving the Bears a 16-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Olmstead would score his second touchdown of the game on the Bears next possession with a 24 yard rushing touchdown on a 93 yard scoring drive that started at their own 7 the two point conversion was no good and the Bears took a 22-0 lead. Owen Kerns would score the final touchdown of the game for the Bears rushing 23 yards for a touchdown capping off a 53 yard touchdown drive Clay Thomas would nail the extra point and the Bears took a 29-0 lead. The Braves would finally get on the board after an eight yard touchdown pass with 3:44 left in the game but it was too late as the Bears defeated the Braves 29-8 improving to 2-2 (1-1) on the season as the Braves fall to 0-4 (0-2). The Bears will be back home again next Friday as they host Saegertown on Homecoming.
